Great Street Art @ Wooster Collective

Since moving to a very gentrified area of South Florida I've been missing the great graffiti art that I used to stumble upon on most of Rio de Janeiro's street corners. I like to get my fix by visiting Wooster Collective, a site that is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world. They have the best images of street art, plus cool posts on related gallery openings and features on artist's portfolios as well. Check it out!

Kaws & Comme des Garçons Collaboration Collection

American artist Kaws has teamed up with Japanese avant-garde label Comme des Garçons to create a series of very cool wallets. These wallets utilize the popular CdG zip style wallet together with the familiar styles of Kaws illustrations. This collaboration includes more than just wallets and will also feature clothing, bags and fragrances. These items are set to debut on November 23rd and will be available at Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London and Original Fake , Kaws co-owed shop with Medicon Toy in Tokyo.

They do remind me of something eerily organic like little hairy turds or limp penises, am I right? Maybe I just have a dirty mind or could Freud explain it?

Street Art @ Miami's Design District

Great street graffiti art in Miami's Design District neighborhood. It was clearly a commissioned mural but nonetheless fabulous and really striking, as I spotted it from about 2 blocks away. It reminds me of an "Adam & Eve in Paradise" reference and I am sure it might have been the artist's inspiration as well. The mural is the work of Danny Fila, a Miami-based street artist. I can't help seeing Shakira the longer I look at the girl's face. Am I crazy or doesn't she look like that Colombian fire-cracker?

More Street Art in Williamsburgh

A few more cool graffiti images I found along Bedford Avenue in Williamsburgh, NY. As I neared the subway station, or "downtown", the quality of the artwork really improved and some really interesting pieces started popping up. The top two are my favorites in the kawaii-department and would make great vinyl figures for the collectible toy-art market. The green gecko was part of a mural on a Mexican restaurant but I thought he was a charmer too.



The first piece of great street art I saw in Williamsburgh was actually the stenciled graffiti piece above. It is posted right outside of the subway exit on Bedford Avenue and I have to say that it strikes me as being quite sophisticated in design and concept. It did remind me right away of the graffiti art that I used to see in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-80's, as this stencil graffiti style was quite popular in the more new-wave artsy set. Love it!

Street Art In Williamsburgh

I spent a few days visiting a friend in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn and got the chance to walk around and discover the neighborhood on my own. I was already a bit disappointed with the quality of most graffiti I kept seeing as it was nothing but tags and scribbles. Just plain vandalism in my eyes. I lucked out in the surroundings of the Williamsburgh Bridge, where I found the group shown here. They were all clustered around the walls of a refrigerator repair shop and I though they were just great work. Though some of the walls were decaying and in pretty bad shape, the colors and styles drew my eyes from a block away and I had to take some pictures for the blog. I have a few more images from Brooklyn coming in another post soon...

Street Art in Soho

Great street art in the streets of Soho, NYC. I love all the guerrilla-style collages that I often see around Soho and Nolita. The post-punk dominatrix is one of my favorites I've seen in a while, as I have a thing for pin-ups in general. The news-print bunny (?) is simply awesome and I would have paid to be able to hang that on my walls! I always get so inspired being in NYC and this recharge was much needed after a few months in Brazil. More street art in the next few days as I've been photographing many cool graffiti art everywhere I've been lately.

NYC Moment @ The Meat Packing District

A young couple was having their wedding album photos taken in the Meat Packing District, NYC, the other day and I had to take a picture too. They were quite excited with it all and didn't even mind my indiscretion. Not sure if the graffiti tags will appeal to Uncle Vern and Aunt Gladys, but I thought it was a cool idea to pick this as a background. Wedding pictures are usually so corny anyway, so let's jazz it up a bit, OK? Kudos!

More Graffiti Art in Rio

This is just a "miscellaneous" batch of cool graffiti art that I had photographed in Rio recently. These are images taken all over the city - from Copacabana to Gavea, from Urca to Ipanema - and they are just a small example of the variety of amazing work that one can see in Rio de Janeiro nowadays. As I am currently in the Northern Hemisphere I will be reporting from here soon on that subject soon - and you can await some great street art that I've already been capturing in pixels.
