Make Me A Supermodel: The Bronnie Tee

Last night I sat through the yawn-inducing "Make Me A Supermodel" reunion show. The event was hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen, doing the "sleaze" job by trying to instigate the contestants against one another. The 14 original hopefuls were all back together, sitting by the show's catwalk, and were also joined by their hosts and judge panel. This episode's editing was shoddy and seemed to cut off when things were about to get good. Not many unseen behind-the-scenes snippets unfortunately, though Holly telling her squirrel stew hunting story was pretty priceless. She let her inner Virginia hillbilly out once and for all, and she came out cuter than ever. The bulk of the show was dedicated to Ronnie & Ben's bro-mance and Bravo's shameless plug of their "Broonie" T-shirts, available for sale at their website for US$19.95. One contestant even dared to wonder whether both models would have stuck out this long had their "relationship" never gotten so much air-play. Makes me wonder too, bud...
The final episode is this coming Thursday and I will let you know who gets the big bucks.

Great Street Art @ Wooster Collective

Since moving to a very gentrified area of South Florida I've been missing the great graffiti art that I used to stumble upon on most of Rio de Janeiro's street corners. I like to get my fix by visiting Wooster Collective, a site that is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world. M-People By Rodolphe Simeon

Vancouver based photographer Rodolphe Simeon's M-People series is quite a sight to behold.
The M-People serie is about people living behind a Mask or Makeup. They live under the influence of Matthew, Mickey Mouse, Marilyn, Marie-Antoinette,Mick and Marianne, Miles and Magritte, and many others...or so Simeon describes it. It is gory and violent at times, with S&M touches and a slight gay innuendo.

Dirty Pigs in London

I just opened my e-mail box to find these great pictures that my sister sent me from London. She thought I'd love this new anti-litter campaign by the British government (she was right!) and took these funny images shown here.

Their site Dirtypig.org (no, it's not a gay hook-up site) explain a bit more about the campaign below:

"Keep Britain Tidy is launching a ‘dirty pig’ campaign to tackle the problem and cut the amount of takeaway trash taking over our streets. Over a quarter of our streets are strewn with cast off food cartons, drink cans, pizza boxes and chip wrappers. Research reveals that many people on a night out depend on a takeaway treat at the end of a night to sober up after a few too many drinks in pubs and clubs – but often most of their midnight meal ends up scattered on the floor or in the gutter. Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign is set to make you think about what you look like when you drop litter. Posters will be appearing around the country featuring an attractive man and woman who develop pig-like features after dropping litter, together with the slogan, ‘What does dropping litter make you look like?’."

Another cool feature on their site is that you can upload your own photo - or of others - and pig-ize it by adding pig features like pink snouts and pig ears.

Giving Credit Where It's Due

Always good to know that people out there dig what I've been doing (humbly) here at Little-Pumpkins. I just found two new links in the past few days relating to previous articles I posted here at the site and that makes me very proud! Damn, I must be doing something right! Right?? The Shecky's Girls - NYC

I bumped into the Shecky's Girls the other day while walking down on Broadway towards Soho, in NYC, and couldn't resist their charm. They were promoting Shecky's girl's-night-out, "a 5½-hour DREAM evening—deliciously filled with endless fashion, glamour, beauty, shopping, cocktails, freebies, and fun", that is held throughout the country. The event is sponsored by Shecky's, a fashion & beauty web site that is quite popular with the ladies. They will be at the Puck Building in Soho, NYC, from the 8-12 of October.

The Work of Samuel Casal

Florianópolis based Brazilian artist Samuel Casal was born in 1974 and has been working professionally as an illustrator since 1990. He is also a cartoonist, guitar player and part-time tattoo artist. Somehow he also finds time to put out his own graphic T-shirt line, available from his site, while contributing his work to several Brazilian and international publications. I love the dark edge that permeates even throughout his most commercial designs, not simply relying on "cute" to get his point across. It reminds me a bit of the feeling of movie director Tim Burton's goth illustration work, but with his own original twist. Great stuff!

Found on Ebay: Frank Sinatra Paintings

Ebay can be amazing. Occasionally a very broad search in a category like art, followed by a sort from highest price to lowest price, can yield some astonishing results – like this one.

In the early 80's Frank Sinatra needed some restoration work for some of his art collection. He contacted Arthur Beeman, who was an avid painter and the head of the illustration department for the Pasadena Jet Propulsion. Impressed by Beeman's work he asked Beeman to teach him how to improve his painting techniques. As a result of this relationship several pictures were painted by Sinatra and left at the teacher's house. When Mrs. Beeman passed away these paintings were a part of her estate.
This collection entails 12 paintings, nine of them are 12" X 16", two paintings are 16" X 20" and one painting is 14" X 18". There is also a companion notarized letter confirming provenance to this collection. The bidding starts at US$525,000.00 (!) at Ebay and is scheduled to end on October 13.

Clearly, old blue eyes employed the age old “would you like to pose for a painting” line to score with the ladies. Sounds like a dirty old man to me...

FruitaBü - Fruit to the People!

I just arrived back in the US and already am hypnotized by the TV commercials. I LOVE the FruitaBü ads! Not sure how long they've been around but it's new to me. They are so colorful and visually appealing that I can see how a kid would want to nag their parents to death to get a hold of those fruit candies. I probably never will actually eat one of them but the whole visual design - and catchy jingle - got me hooked from the first time I saw it. I had to freeze-frame my Tivo to be able to enjoy every second of it, as it's so much information at once that can get anyone dizzy!

Madonna Nominated For Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame

Now, over ten albums later, Goddess Madonna’s been nominated for a slot in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. And she’s hardly the only gay icon:
Madonna, the Beastie Boys, the Dave Clark Five, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, John Mellencamp, the Ventures, Donna Summer and Chic have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
Five acts will make it into the Hall of Fame in 2008. Madonna and the Beastie Boys are on the ballot on their first year of eligibility; this year’s nominees had to release their first single no later than 1982, the year that Madonna’s “Everybody” and the Beasties’ punk EP Polly Wog Stew came out. The other first-time nominees are Cohen, Bambaataa, Summer and the Ventures.

Girl! Girl! Girl! by Yuko Odawara

Great kawaii illustration site "Girl! Girl! Girl!", that is - you guessed it - about girls! I love the whole minimalist Asian aesthetic in illustration artist Yuko Odawara's drawing style. Very fashionable, stylish design. Yuko's work is quite characteristic, due to the vivid colouring and elegant lines, combined with fashion textures, prints and cloth samples. Too bad that the site is written in Japanese so I cannot tell you too much more about the artist besides that her work is geared mainly at advertising, editorials and web contents. Kudos anyway!
