Bjork Performing @ Hammersmith Apollo - London

Goddess Bjork performing at London's Hammersmith Apollo on April 13Th and looking simply FAB! I love Bjork for all her originality and genuine fearless fashion sense, not to mention that she has got one of the most unique set of pipes out there. She always brings a little Nina Hagen to mind, another music-warrior-woman who has been beating her own drums since the 80's. Bjork's videos are a joy to watch as they are as out-there as her music can be. I own this live DVD set in which she performs at this church-like building, along with some Icelandic tribal chorus, that is simply amazing. Love you Bjork!

Ice Cream Truck In London

I just got these images in the mail yesterday from my sister that was in London for a few days this past week. It reminded me of this post that I had done a short while back and being a sucker for "naif art" had to post it here too. I love these pseudo-good attempts to recreate pop culture icons such as this Disney-inspired ouvre seen above.

Agent Provocateur Window @ Selfridge's London

People on their way to work got an eyeful today when a woman stripped naked in the window of Selfridges - but it was all in the name of art. The model posed nude for an artist to paint her to promote Strip, a fragrance by lingerie label Agent Provocateur.
Passers-by gaped, fumbling for their camera phones, while buses slowed down and passengers swarmed to the windows. But once the artist, who calls himself Jacques le Trompet, finished the painting, the model, Jen, covered up and the curtain was drawn.
Sadly for those with a sudden urge to rush down to Selfridges this afternoon she has now been replaced by a clothed mannequin. It is the latest and most daring window display by the label. A spokeswoman said: "It's part of the tradition for Agent Provocateur. In 2005 we had a live striptease in the window of our Soho branch. The street was rammed."

Dirty Pigs in London

I just opened my e-mail box to find these great pictures that my sister sent me from London. She thought I'd love this new anti-litter campaign by the British government (she was right!) and took these funny images shown here.

Their site Dirtypig.org (no, it's not a gay hook-up site) explain a bit more about the campaign below:

"Keep Britain Tidy is launching a ‘dirty pig’ campaign to tackle the problem and cut the amount of takeaway trash taking over our streets. Over a quarter of our streets are strewn with cast off food cartons, drink cans, pizza boxes and chip wrappers. Research reveals that many people on a night out depend on a takeaway treat at the end of a night to sober up after a few too many drinks in pubs and clubs – but often most of their midnight meal ends up scattered on the floor or in the gutter. Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign is set to make you think about what you look like when you drop litter. Posters will be appearing around the country featuring an attractive man and woman who develop pig-like features after dropping litter, together with the slogan, ‘What does dropping litter make you look like?’."

Another cool feature on their site is that you can upload your own photo - or of others - and pig-ize it by adding pig features like pink snouts and pig ears.

Kaws & Comme des Garçons Collaboration Collection

American artist Kaws has teamed up with Japanese avant-garde label Comme des Garçons to create a series of very cool wallets. These wallets utilize the popular CdG zip style wallet together with the familiar styles of Kaws illustrations. This collaboration includes more than just wallets and will also feature clothing, bags and fragrances. These items are set to debut on November 23rd and will be available at Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London and Original Fake , Kaws co-owed shop with Medicon Toy in Tokyo.

They do remind me of something eerily organic like little hairy turds or limp penises, am I right? Maybe I just have a dirty mind or could Freud explain it?

Cute Alert: Ginger Bread Man @ Madame Tussauds

Ginger Bread Man is the newest - and smallest - addition to London's Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. The character from the Shrek movie series, along with the Shrek-meister himself are on now immortalized in wax and on display for everyone's delight. I was not a big fan of the series last installment "Shrek the Third" as it was far from the witty-ness of the earlier films, but I guess that goes with most movies that add a number to the end of their titles.

Vivienne Westwood @ Palazzo Reale - Milan

British designer Vivienne Westwood's first official collection was in 1981, during London's Fashion week. Since then her collections have been the fountain of inspiration for countless other designers, by adapting her original punk/new romantic/sartorial ideas into every day fashions. Many people may credit Gaultier as the underwear-as-outerwear originator but Westwood had lime-green satin bras worn over white T-shirts in her fashion shows all the way back to her earlier collections. Along Malcolm McLaren, she invented the punk rock look, famously dressing the Sex Pistols in the late 70's. Nowadays she keeps an eye in tradition, exploring Saville Row, Scottish tartan country plaids & Victorian patterns, but unafraid of the frayed hems and torn seams of her punk past.

Starts today at Palazzo Reale in Milan, Queen Viv's retrospective spanning over 30 years of her influential fashion career. Launched in the 2004 at the London Victoria & Albert Museum, the exhibition is the largest display the museum ever dedicated to a British designer. The Retrospective features designs selected from both the V&A’s collections and Vivienne Westwood’s personal archive. The Palazzo Reale in Milan is the only Italian venue and is the climax of a tour that in four years has visited nine European, Asian, American and Pacific venues. The work encompasses styles from the street fashion of the 70’s to grand ball gowns influenced by historical art and dresses, to the more recent exploration of pattern-cutting techniques and socio-political critic.Film and catwalk footage on Vivienne Westwood’s life and career will be shown throughout the exhibition.

Theo Fennell @ Royal Academy of Art

One of Britain’s most revered jewellers, Theo Fennell, is hosting an exhibition by arrangement with the Royal Academy of Art in London this September. The title of the exhibition is "Show Off!" and will consist of installations, dioramas, paintings, presentations and sculptures each showcasing a piece of Fennell’s jewellery.
The idea behind the exhibition is to herald a return to the halcyon days of jewellery, when our hardware was less status symbol or fashion tag and more precious, perennial and personal. Advocating jewellery and silverware made with skill and traditional craftsmanship, Fennell has conjured-up a series of extraordinary vignettes, both thought provoking and amusing and all the while, driving home the timeless qualities and attitudes our forebears felt about jewellery.
Fennell explains his venture:

‘So much jewellery nowadays is badly conceived and made – be it huge, expensive stones strung thoughtlessly together or ‘branded’ gee-gaws put together with no heart. I wanted to show that great craftsmanship is still alive and thriving and, if combined with emotion and design, jewellery can be something magical and engaging; something talismanic and precious to its owner in a lasting way, not at the ephemeral whim of fashion: it can be truly owned.’
