Goddess Bjork performing at London's Hammersmith Apollo on April 13Th and looking simply FAB! I love Bjork for all her originality and genuine fearless fashion sense, not to mention that she has got one of the most unique set of pipes out there. She always brings a little Nina Hagen to mind, another music-warrior-woman who has been beating her own drums since the 80's. Bjork's videos are a joy to watch as they are as out-there as her music can be. I own this live DVD set in which she performs at this church-like building, along with some Icelandic tribal chorus, that is simply amazing. Love you Bjork!

What A Sell Out: Madonna Hocks Sunsilk

Lazy Sunday afternoon watching the telly, no big whoop. Suddenly Madonna appears. Is this a commercial for her new album "Hard Candy"?? No, she is selling shampoo on TV! Not sure what to make of it but does she really need the money that bad? Isn't she like a gazillionaire by now? Shampoo, really?? Nothing against celebs making some dough out of their images but I have high regards for Goddess Madonna and Sunsilk is not up her alley at all. A whiff of desperation enters the room...

What's a better way to start the weekend than drooling at new images of burlesque Goddess Dita Von Teese? Even if I were to try really hard I can't come to find faults with her ever-perfect personal style and flawless beauty. Check out her manicure job! Madonna Elle Covers Double-Dose

One Madonna is never enough in my book. The Can-Do-No-Wrong Goddess is featured on the covers of Elle Magazine's May 2008 issue here in the US and also across the pond on the UK's version. I personally prefer the edgier British cover for it's cleaner lay out and semi-minimal text spread. The American version looks more like Glamour than chic Elle, with so much crap written all over that makes one go dizzy. Does anyone really read all those teasers before buying a mag? I don't. I buy a publication regardless of the cover type but for it's cover subject or I'll pick it up if I'm already familiar with it, like an i-D or Wallpaper.

Madonna @ Vanity Fair's May 2008 Issue

Goddess Madonna is the cover star of May 2008's Vanity Fair issue. The feature entitled "Madonnarama!", interviewed by Andy Cohen and photographed by Steven Meisel, coincides with the debut of her latest album "Hard Candy". A little snippet from the article's header:

As she nears 50, Madonna’s narrative is shifting. Yes, there’s another new super-pop album, Hard Candy, with Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. But there’s also Filth and Wisdom, the feature film she’s co-written, produced, and directed, and I Am Because We Are, her documentary on Malawi, the aids-ravaged country where she controversially adopted her third child. Whisked to L.A. for an intense prep session, followed by an almost two-hour interview, the author explores the evolution of the Madonna myth as she harnesses her image-making genius to a cause, a philosophy, and the search for her true self.

I can't wait to get my own copy and will be on the look out for it in my mail box, as Vanity Fair is one of most anticipated publications every month, next to New York Magazine and Entertainment weekly.

Madonna @ Interview Magazine

With her new album "Hard Candy" coming out on April 29TH, Madonna has started her media blitz promoting her new musical effort. She is the cover girl of the new issue of Interview Magazine posing spread-legged on a boxing ring, a-la Christina "Dirrrty" Aguilera. This raunchy pose is so old-Madonna and I thought she had gotten over those cheap provocations many years back. At least her face looks normal on this image as she has been looking very odd lately, with some very puffed-out collagen cheeks.

The Goddess is also on the cover of the new Dazed & Confused issue and as the mag states she is "ready for anything".

Nina Hagen - Punk Priestess Style Icon

I remember watching Nina Hagen perform live at Rock In Rio in the mid-80's and she was the belle of the ball, total media darling and fan favorite. She wore a waist-length red ponytail, a fitted black corset bodysuit, fishnet stockings and a thong which front part was the head of a stuffed toy puppy. She had the crowd going with her trade-mark sound, a mix of falsettos, primal growls and Betty Boop-esque singing (inner) voices. She was fresh, fearless and a great inspiration to dare to be who you want to be, not giving a damn to any status quo.

Born in East Germany, Nina Hagen had already gained a reputation as a flamboyant rock singer by the time she emigrated to the West in 1976, where she formed a band, signed to CBS Germany, and released their debut album, Nina Hagen Band, in 1978. It was followed in 1980 by Unbehagen. Hagen's first U.S. release, Nina Hagen Band EP (1980), was a four-song EP consisting of songs drawn from her two German releases. She moved to New York and made her first English-language LP, Nunsexmonkrock, in 1982. That and its follow-up, the Giorgio Moroder-produced Fearless (1983), charted briefly, and "New York New York" was a Top Ten dance club hit.

Madonna has already claimed her new album, Hard Candy, will "kick your ass." Turns out, she wasn't kidding! Witness the cover of her upcoming album, due April 29, featuring the pop diva sporting, yep, a wrestling belt. Featuring production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills and an appearance by Justin Timberlake, Madonna's rep says the album's "about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness."

Eartha Kitt - Catwoman At 81

Well, now the Catwoman trilogy is complete. I just found this recent image of Eartha Kitt, TV's last Catwoman and had to post it here too. Ms. Kitt appeared as one of Batman's top arch-enemies in just three episodes during the series last season only as Julie Newmar was unavailable. Most of the villans were simply guest stars and not part of the permanent cast. Julie Newmar (13 episodes) is still my favorite Catwoman ever, though Eartha Kitt did a good job too. Lee Meriwether was cast as Catwoman for the Batman movie only as Julie Newmar was busy filming a movie during the series first season hiatus.

I actually met Ertha Kitt once a few years ago. She did a concert in Provincetown, Massachusetts one summer and I went to a meet-and-greet with the star after her show. I had been a fan of her for many years and actually owned a few of her albums and CDs, so meeting her was a dream come true. She is after all a huge icon, that had been friends with James Dean and still very active in the cabaret world. Meeting her was a total let down. She was just so bored and uninterested being there to meet her fans that she wouldn't even fake a smile when people approached her. She was just sitting there behind a table, signing autographs (I got one) and barely would look up when people praised her. Maybe she was tired or bored but she probably shouldn't have agreed to these contractual clauses if she wasn't going to even try to appear friendly and nice.

Wonder Woman x Catwoman: Then & Now

TV's beloved Wonder Woman, actress Lynda Carter in an image taken this week. She is still glorious at 56, as gorgeous as ever. I remember being a kid and gawking at Wonder Woman on TV thinking how could anyone be so beautiful. Every so often I catch her on the telly doing some bit part in one of the many series on American TV or at a made-for-cable movie.

Below we see actress Julie Newmar, at 74, also during an event this past week. She played the original and hottest Catwoman ever, in the campy Batman TV series in the late 60's. Sadly she does not look as elegant and poised as this other former Catwoman as her outfit of choice is very inappropriate for her age. Considering is 74 she does look fab (thanks doctor!) but still not as her fans would like to remember her.
