The Girl From Ipanema - 1965

This 1965 video shows Brazilian singer/composer Tom Jobim singing his classic "Girl From Ipanema" alongside American pop singer Andy Williams. Besides the obvious retro charm of Andy Williams' "Lost In Space" sweater this is just a joy to watch and listen to. I love all these mellow Bossa Nova rhythms and being Brazilian-born myself it also brings back some great childhood flashbacks... Love it!

I am such a sucker for nostalgia that I just spent the last 15 minutes of my life browsing though hundreds of really cool vintage beauty ads on Flicker. It's so amazing to see what women really went through to keep up with beauty trends through the past 30 plus years and some of these fashions were pretty scary in retrospect. How long did one take to ready? Geez, some of those hair styles are sculptural to say the least! I am sure that in 3o years from now people will be saying the same things about our current beauty looks but nothing beats the late 60's-early 70's in out-there maquillage and funky hairdos. Love it!

Wonder Woman x Catwoman: Then & Now

TV's beloved Wonder Woman, actress Lynda Carter in an image taken this week. She is still glorious at 56, as gorgeous as ever. I remember being a kid and gawking at Wonder Woman on TV thinking how could anyone be so beautiful. Every so often I catch her on the telly doing some bit part in one of the many series on American TV or at a made-for-cable movie.

Below we see actress Julie Newmar, at 74, also during an event this past week. She played the original and hottest Catwoman ever, in the campy Batman TV series in the late 60's. Sadly she does not look as elegant and poised as this other former Catwoman as her outfit of choice is very inappropriate for her age. Considering is 74 she does look fab (thanks doctor!) but still not as her fans would like to remember her.

Lee Meriwether - Catwoman At 72

Wow! I came across this picture of Lee Meriwether on TMZ this morning and couldn't believe my eyes how great she looks. She still is mostly known for playing Catwoman on the 1966 movie version of Batman, one of the campiest TV shows ever. Though she was not the original Catwoman - that would be the delicious Julie Newmar - she still makes appearances at fan conventions around the US and is beloved as the forever sexy icon. Lee Meriwether also was cast as Dr. Ann MacGregor in the sadly short-lived sci-fi TV series "The Time Tunnel" and as Betty Jones in the detective drama "Barnaby Jones". She also made numerous appearances in many of the hot TV series of the 60's like "Star Trek", "Land Of Giants" and "Mission: Impossible". Fun fact: as a 19-year-old drama student from California, she was crowned Miss America in 1954, the year of the first live telecast, and was the first to cry tears of joy at the announcement.

Ms Meriwether still keeps a quite active acting career and she recently was cast a recurring character on TV soap "All My Children".

Marilyn Monroe By Bert Stern @ Galeria Estação - São Paulo

For three days in 1962 photographer Bert Stern shot one of cinema's biggest and most enigmatic icons - Marilyn Monroe - in a Los Angeles hotel suite. Unknow to both at the time this was going to be Marilyn's last photo sitting and perhaps one of her most revealing, where she shed her clothing to reveal more than mere flesh. Even after more than 45 years after her death she is still revered as Hollywood's larger-than-life screen goddess, who was unafraid to expose her vulnerability to Stern's camera, surgical scar and all.

Now at São Paulo's Galeria Estação you can view this complete sitting in the show titled "Marilyn Monroe - O Mito (The Myth)". The exhibit goes from January 26th to March 16th and if you happen to be visiting Brazil's largest city you shouldn't miss it.
