Madonna Does The Mad Hatter - Or Is It The Other Way Around?

In my book Madonna can do no wrong (except her outings in Ed Hardy - what was she thinking?) but I still could not resist this great image of Madge as Alice in Wonderland's The Mad Hatter. Totally separated at birth!! Genius, huh?

Madonna In Wax @ Madame Tussauds

London's Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum unveiled their version of Madonna's "Hard Candy" album cover. The singer is shown in a boxing ring in a similar position as the image on the album - coming out April 29Th in the US. I am surprised that they did not go all the way to reproduce it exactly like the original photograph though if does look like the Goddess is really there in person.

Madonna For Chopard

On more Madonna news (never too many at Little-Pumpkins), the Goddess has turned to Chopard to create the custom diamond knuckle ring that reads “M-dolla” and the Happy Diamonds cross she wears on the cover of her new and much anticipated album “Hardy Candy.” Designed by Chopard co-president Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele herself, the ring features 258 brilliant cut white diamonds with the signature Chopard floating diamonds in the flourish of the letter M. This is the second partnership between Chopard and Madonna; their first was the pave diamond “Hung Up” necklace the Pop Queen wore onstage from her “Confessions on a Dance Floor” album. The “Hard Candy” album cover has a WWE-like wrestling theme with Madonna wearing a black leotard, thigh-high black boots, a WWE-like wrestling title belt, black gloves and, of course, the Chopard M-dolla ring and the diamond Chopard cross with 3 diamonds.

What A Sell Out: Madonna Hocks Sunsilk

Lazy Sunday afternoon watching the telly, no big whoop. Suddenly Madonna appears. Is this a commercial for her new album "Hard Candy"?? No, she is selling shampoo on TV! Not sure what to make of it but does she really need the money that bad? Isn't she like a gazillionaire by now? Shampoo, really?? Nothing against celebs making some dough out of their images but I have high regards for Goddess Madonna and Sunsilk is not up her alley at all. A whiff of desperation enters the room...

Madonna's Vanity Fair Globe On Ebay

The globe that Madonna had as cover prop for the cover of Vanity Fair's "Green Issue" (May 2008) is up for auction on Ebay. The benefit auction ends on April 18Th.
The globe, which took 10 days to complete, is made of plaster and marble dust with a recyclable polystyrene core, according to the magazine. It's going up for auction today with proceeds to benefit Madonna's Raising Malawi Charity. Madonna signed the globe as well and drew a heart over Africa.

Tony Ward @ Vogue Hommes International

Model/actor Tony Ward in the latest issue of Vogue Homme International, shot by Jack Pierson. Ward started modelling in the early 80's having made several iconic collaborations with late photographer Herb Ritts, then also new to the business. He gained notoriety by dating Madonna and appearing in several of her videos including "Cherish" (merman!), "Erotica" and "Justify My Love". His acting debut came via Bruce Labruce's 1996 "Hustler White" which Ward plays the very risque title character.
I once ran across Tony Ward in LA's Waco store a few years ago. He had in tow this adorable half-Asian child, that I assumed was his daughter. He looked great though he didn't seem as tall as I'd envisioned him. He looked very "LA": jeans/T-shirt combo, gruff and unshaven. Hot!

Comme des Garcons @ H&M !?

File that under bizarre fashion news: Commes de Garcons just announced a partnership with Swedish fast-fashion retailer behemoth H&M. I just posted this morning about how CDG seems to be spreading thin with so-many collaborations but this one is surely the strangest I've heard so far. Many top-shelf designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Stella McCartney have already designed special lines for H&M and even celebs like Madonna and Kate Moss have tried their hand at that too, but Rei Kawakubo? You know, 3-legged pants Rei Kawakubo! I am VERY curious to see what comes out of this one but I will have to wait until November 08 when the range of womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and accessories hit the shelves. She is also developing a new unisex fragrance for the Swedish retailer as well.

Madonna Elle Covers Double-Dose

One Madonna is never enough in my book. The Can-Do-No-Wrong Goddess is featured on the covers of Elle Magazine's May 2008 issue here in the US and also across the pond on the UK's version. I personally prefer the edgier British cover for it's cleaner lay out and semi-minimal text spread. The American version looks more like Glamour than chic Elle, with so much crap written all over that makes one go dizzy. Does anyone really read all those teasers before buying a mag? I don't. I buy a publication regardless of the cover type but for it's cover subject or I'll pick it up if I'm already familiar with it, like an i-D or Wallpaper.

Madonna @ Vanity Fair's May 2008 Issue

Goddess Madonna is the cover star of May 2008's Vanity Fair issue. The feature entitled "Madonnarama!", interviewed by Andy Cohen and photographed by Steven Meisel, coincides with the debut of her latest album "Hard Candy". A little snippet from the article's header:

As she nears 50, Madonna’s narrative is shifting. Yes, there’s another new super-pop album, Hard Candy, with Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. But there’s also Filth and Wisdom, the feature film she’s co-written, produced, and directed, and I Am Because We Are, her documentary on Malawi, the aids-ravaged country where she controversially adopted her third child. Whisked to L.A. for an intense prep session, followed by an almost two-hour interview, the author explores the evolution of the Madonna myth as she harnesses her image-making genius to a cause, a philosophy, and the search for her true self.

I can't wait to get my own copy and will be on the look out for it in my mail box, as Vanity Fair is one of most anticipated publications every month, next to New York Magazine and Entertainment weekly.

Madonna @ Interview Magazine

With her new album "Hard Candy" coming out on April 29TH, Madonna has started her media blitz promoting her new musical effort. She is the cover girl of the new issue of Interview Magazine posing spread-legged on a boxing ring, a-la Christina "Dirrrty" Aguilera. This raunchy pose is so old-Madonna and I thought she had gotten over those cheap provocations many years back. At least her face looks normal on this image as she has been looking very odd lately, with some very puffed-out collagen cheeks.
The Goddess is also on the cover of the new Dazed & Confused issue and as the mag states she is "ready for anything".

Madonna's Hard Candy

Madonna has already claimed her new album, Hard Candy, will "kick your ass." Turns out, she wasn't kidding! Witness the cover of her upcoming album, due April 29, featuring the pop diva sporting, yep, a wrestling belt. Featuring production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills and an appearance by Justin Timberlake, Madonna's rep says the album's "about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness."

Madonna @ Dazed & Confused

Goddess Madonna is the cover girl for Dazed & Confused's latest issue. In the April issue of the magazine, out March 13th, undisputed heavyweight champ of reinvention Madonna talks exclusively to Dazed & Confused's Jefferson Hack about her latest incarnation. In her first interview about her new album Hard Candy, worked on with Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, and Timbaland, Madonna discusses her many different, and occasionally contradictory, roles – as performer and provocateur, mother and artist, style icon and campaigner. Photographed by long-time collaborator Steven Klein with art direction by Giovanni Bianco at Studio 65, the queen of pop looks as uncompromising, tough and sexy as ever. This unique tribute issue also features 70 pages of Madonna-inspired fashion and art, including contributions from Katy England and Alasdair McLellan, Emile Larsson, Nicola Formichetti and Benjamin Alexander Huseby, plus new works from artists such as Matthew Stone, Alex Rose, and Daniel Sannwald.

Madonna, Lourdes & Dita @ Gucci

Madonna was the hostess to a celebrity-studded event in New York City on the lawns of the United Nations to aid Malawi orphans, UNICEF and to inaugurate a new Gucci store. Madonna brought daughter Lourdes in tow, looking very grown up for her 11 years of age. Time flies as it seems like yesterday when Lourdes was just a little tyke. Madge is looking a little weird on the face, like she got implants or something, not that I want to add to plastic surgeries speculations...
A staggering £300,000 was paid for four VIP tickets to a Madonna concert, which were part of a package that included business class flights, two nights in the Ritz-Carlton and a private dance aerobics class with Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. It was one of seven lots on auction at Raising Malawi and Unicef, one of the biggest charity events in New York which took organiser Gucci a year to plan. Later, a mystery Japanese businesswoman bought the Madonna tickets. Businessman Arpad Busson bid £30,000 for Gucci fashion show tickets and the chance to have a bag named after him. Lourdes narrowly missed out on tickets to American Idol and first-edition Harry Potter books, which eventually went for £47,000. Salma Hayek outbid American Vogue editor Anna Wintour to pay £175,000 for a private hour playing football with David Beckham. Madonna, wearing a sexy Gucci jersey dress, told the crowd:

"I've earned a reputation for many things: pushing the envelope, for being a provocateur, for never taking no for an answer. For endlessly reinventing myself, for being a cult member, a kidnapper. For being ambitious, outrageous and irreverent. And for never settling for second best."

Also in attendance was Little-Pumpkins favorite Dita Von Teese, looking as fabulous as ever at the Mallawi benefit last night. Leave it to Dita to outshine everyone else...

Madonna To Be Inducted @ Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame

Goddess Madonna Louise Ciccone has been selected, in her first year of eligibility, as one of the five artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I had talked about it here before way back in September and was rooting for one of my favorite artists and icons. The Material Girl will comprise the Hall of Fame Class of '08 along with populist rocker John Mellencamp, Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, surf instrumental combo the Ventures and British Invasion group the Dave Clark Five. The 2008 induction ceremony will be held on March 10, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. To be eligible for the Rock Hall, artists must have issued their first single or album 25 years before nomination. Other acts nominated this year included the Beastie Boys, Donna Summer, Afrika Bambaataa and Chic, but unfortunately did not get voted in. Congrats Madge!

Kidnap Madonna For Drug Money

I just went ga-ga over this T-shirt by Mishka I saw online the other day. How can it be more brilliant? Kidnap Madonna For Drug Money! LOVE IT!!
A little background on the label: based out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Mishka is a street wear brand that references any and all things the creators have been inspired by: The underground punk/ hardcore/post-hardcore & skate scene’s of the 80’s, heavy metal & indie rock, horror, comics, B-movies and pop culture in general. In addition, Mishka embraces emerging artists and works closely with them on unique graphic concepts. In Russian, Mishka [pronounced: mee-shka] means “bear cub”. Bear cubs in general are intelligent, independent and gentle, but anger one and it’ll tear your face off! Mikhail Bortnik and Gregory Rivera established the brand in 2003 and gave the word a new meaning by creating what is one of the most coveted underground street wear labels around.

Celebrity Billboards in Tokyo

Many celebrities will shy away from advertisement contracts in the US to avoid being associated with a particular product or wear-out their images. Usually that's something one will do end they are at career's end and they take what they can get. This has changed a little in recent years when desirable luxury-goods companies like Louis Vuitton or Versace are key brands when adding glamour and sophistication to a star's public image. Welsh-born Catherine Zeta-Jones was somewhat of a trend-setter when agreeing to be T-Mobile front woman in the US. Traditionally such stars will seldom be seen pushing cars or liquor ads in America, but when the images will be sold to foreign markets the cash will talk louder. Sites like Gaijin-a-Go-Go offer a great menu of Western stars in Japanese commercials, that are actually quite fun to watch. Here's a small array of celebs working hard in Japan.

Madonna Nominated For Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame

Now, over ten albums later, Goddess Madonna’s been nominated for a slot in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. And she’s hardly the only gay icon:
Madonna, the Beastie Boys, the Dave Clark Five, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, John Mellencamp, the Ventures, Donna Summer and Chic have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
Five acts will make it into the Hall of Fame in 2008. Madonna and the Beastie Boys are on the ballot on their first year of eligibility; this year’s nominees had to release their first single no later than 1982, the year that Madonna’s “Everybody” and the Beasties’ punk EP Polly Wog Stew came out. The other first-time nominees are Cohen, Bambaataa, Summer and the Ventures.

Madonna Turns 49

Pop goddess Madonna celebrates her 49TH birthday tomorrow, August 16Th. British newspaper "The Sun" says she is planning a live concert at NYC's Central Park in 2008 in celebration of her big 5-O. Madonna also has a new album in the works that is tentatively scheduled to debut in December. Happy birthday from a huge fan that has actually touched your hand (tip of your index finger) when you played Boston last August. You also put the mike to my face when you were doing "Hung Up". Remember me???
