Barbie Goes Gaga

Lady Gaga, dressed in a cherry-red lace dress with matching mask, accepts the award for best new artist at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Halfway through her acceptance speech, the singer stripped off her mask and thorny crown, re-created on the doll at left, to address the crowd.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth met U.S. Lady Gaga following the Royal Variety Performance in Blackpool, England on Dec. 7, 2009. Gaga wore a stunning red dress and matching eye makeup for the occasion, as does her doll version on left.

To announce plans for her North American concert tour, titled "The Monster Ball," Lady Gaga sported a complicated sphere; her doll version on left celebrates the moment.

The pop sensation is known for her catchy dance music and eccentric style, ranging from pantless getups to blinding face masks to this quirky, tied-with-a-bow hairdo. Photographer Weikang Lu re-created the singer’s bold outfits for dolls, including the one on left, in hopes of sharing his appreciation for fashion with other doll lovers.

On the doll at left, Weikang Lu paid homage to Lady Gaga's fiery performance at the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada, on June 21, 2009. Of her pantless style, the singer told Rolling Stone magazine: "My grandmother is basically blind, but she can make out the lighter parts, like my skin and hair. She says, 'I can see you, because you have no pants on.' So I’ll continue to wear no pants so that my grandma can see me.”

Re-Ment Miniature Food

.

Puchi Petites are scaled miniatures of everyday items produced by Japan's Re-Ment company. These kawaii-licious collectibles will surprise you with their ultra-realistic, to-scale reproductions of everyday food items and objects. They are perfect for dollhouses or for the true toy fanatic that loves to build sets and dioramas with their favorite "action figures" and limited-edition toy art.
This Asian art form that has taken Japan by storm is now available for the first time in the United States through their website. These miniatures are fun collectibles you’ll treasure for years to come and are just too cute to ignore. Each piece is hand-painted, so every feature is shown to perfection. You’ll marvel at the incredible craftsmanship, which captures items with detail rarely seen—right down to individual slices of green pepper for your pizza and ice cubes that come out of the tray. Puchi Petites will also remind you of your own childhood, bringing back that sense of childlike wonder you felt when entering the world of your imagination. They are one heartwarming piece after another that scream: Nostalgic! Nostalgic! Nostalgic!
One cool feature on Re-Ment's site is the user gallery "Fun Room", where Puchi Petite's fans display their own mini-sets and diorama creations, featuring Barbies, Blythes and Godzillas interacting with some really cool faux-food products. I love them all!!

Bruised Barbie

Either Barbie has some closeted S&M kinky side that we are not aware of or Ken has some explaining to do...

Perma-Tan

For those already suffering from summer-tan-withdrawal-syndrome listen to the wise words of our friend Barbara Millicent Roberts - a.k.a. Barbie from Mattel (as in Jenny from the Block): "A plastic tan never fades".
With that in mind I found this great gift idea from 80'sTees.com (the glittery heat transfer decal sealed the deal for me): Malibu Barbie baby-tee in light gray cotton and U$24.00 cost. Sorry, girl sizes only...

Kid's Beauty Pageant Images - Cute or Creepy?

These creepy-cute images from a kid's beauty pageant can make you go from ohhh to yuk in a matter of seconds. They look like mini-adults, precociously "sexualized", fit to a tee to a pervert's wet dream. Little prosti-tot Barbies. They do look happy to be there but we all know that their overweight stage moms are the ones behind it all. Haven't parents learned anything after Jon Bennet? These days, even in Brazil you can hear about kid's pageants, specially in the South, as I saw recently on a variety TV show. The kids were always crushed when they were not picked, though most weren't even sure why they had to win. When you're 5 the concept of a beauty pageant can be a bit blurry. What most little girls wanted was just to get a sash because that's what made their mom's happy.

Nude Barbie Dolls & Girlie Magazines

Just a few weeks ago I had mentioned about the Barbie doll display at "A Cena Muda" vintage magazine stand in Ipanema. As I walked by the other day and had my camera on me, I took some snap shots to share here at Little-Pumpkins. Another interesting detail is that the nude model on the mags on display is Xuxa, a very famous TV personality in Brazil. These publications date from the early 80's when Xuxa was still fairly unknown and mostly famous for being soccer player Pele's girlfriend. Nowadays she's a very successful and influential media person, having built her career as a kid's TV show hostess, and she shuns her shady past. By the way, this display is right on the sidewalk for everyone to see as female nudity is not a big taboo in Brazil.

Fulla - Don't Call Her Muslim Barbie

Princess Halleh also told me about the Fulla Doll, though out since 2003, I had never heard about it before. I thought it would make a good posting, so here it is!
Fulla is the name of an 11 1/2 inch Barbie-like fashion doll marketed to children of Islamic and Middle-Eastern countries as an alternative to the American icon. Fulla is sold in China, North Africa, Egypt and Brazil(!) while few are sold in the US (wonder why?). Although there had been many other dolls in the past that were created with a hijab none of them had ever been as popular as Fulla. She is a role-model to some Muslim people, displaying how most Muslin people would prefer their daughters to dress and behave. Though often compared to Barbie, they actually have more differences than similarities. For instance, while Barbie has a free life and a wide range of jobs, Fulla doesn't have much to do but shop, spend time with her friends, cook, read, and pray. The brand claimed that there will be a doctor and a teacher Fulla in the future, as "these are two respected careers for women that we would like to encourage small girls to follow." Also, Barbie has a boyfriend, but Fulla doesn't and never will.
But do not pity the young Muslim girls! In the Western world we have the anorexic blond-bimbo Barbie (the infidel) to contend with, "helping" girls have a more messed up sense of self and skewed body image.

Matell Sues Over Porno-Barbie

Toy maker Mattel Inc. went to court last week to declare that the name of its clean-cut Barbie dolls doesn't belong on a "model's" pornographic Web site. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Mattel said the Web site for an adult entertainer named China Barbie has tried to benefit from Mattel's success with the 48-year-old line of dolls. China Barbie's site says she's a "cordial young lady" who sat behind the desks of some of the world's leading investment banking firms and advertising agencies in New York before getting into porn. It says her filmography includes "Me Luv You Long Time," "Ethnic Cheerleaders 8" and "Passport to Paradise." The lawsuit said Global China Networks used a domain name containing the word "barbie" in a "bad faith attempt to profit from Mattel's Barbie trademarks" and had damaged Mattel's good name. Mattel wants the site shut down and US$100,000 in damages.

If they only knew the stuff I used to do to my sister's Barbies...
