On the corners of Rua do Rosario and Rua Visconde de Itaborai, in downtown Rio, you will find large scale works by Brazilian artist Jose Resende, displayed right outside avant-garde Galeria Paulo Fernandes. The steel sculptures are very striking and powerful and caught my eye from a block's distance. The diminutive gallery is very unique in itself, with tall exposed stone walls and just a single choice metal sculpture prominently displayed in the middle. The scent of eucalyptus, reminiscing of a sauna, is in a intriguing contrast to the cool temperature inside.
